From Hilo: Head north towards Honoka’a on Highway 19 (Mamalahoa Hwy/Hawaii Belt Road) over the Wailuku “Singing” Bridge, past the plantation villages of Papa’ikou and Pepe’ekeo. Follow the sign for Akaka Falls/Honomu and turn left onto Honomu Road at mile marker 13.5. Follow the road up past the new Honomu post office, to the T-junction, and turn left into Honomu village. We are in the newer storefront building past Hawaii Zipline tours, Kula Shave Ice, and Birria Boss. It is before the Russian Orthodox Church, Ed’s Bakery (the old Ishigo Bakery) and Honomu Henjoji Mission temple.
From Waimea/Honokaa (North Hawaii): Head south towards Hilo on Highway 19 (Mamalahoa Hwy/Hawaii Belt Road). Honomu is the next plantation village after Hakalau/Wailea. Go over the bridge at Kolekole Park. Follow the sign for Akaka Falls/Honomu and turn right onto Honomu Road at mile marker 13.5. - Waimea/Kamuela: 50 minutes (39 miles) from Mud Lane-Old Mamalahoa Hwy/Hwy 19 junction at Lakeland
